Raveena’s Revenge – By Joe Boi – Short Film Review
Raveena’s Revenge is a hilarious adventure following the first date of Raveena (Ashleigh Ann Wood) and Danny (Joe Boi) on their first date, but is all as it seems. In the back of the restaurant, vampire hunters plan Raveena’s demise, as unbeknownst to Danny, he’s on the first date with a Vampire.
I like how Joe Boi has a central role, yet takes a backseat in terms of plot, his directing and writing skills are given a spotlight with hilarious gags throughout the short. The real star is Raveena, Ashleigh Ann Wood plays the misunderstood evil vampire very well, evoking empathy. She is threatening when she needs to be, but also caring and tender in a sweet way.
The vampire hunters really shine through in their comedic roles. Samantha Burton plays a fantastic pretend waitress/unenthusiastic vampire hunter who isn’t so sure as to why she is there. Dennis Mallen is the intimidating Red Boss Man who is under the impression that he is surrounded by idiots (he is). All in all, the cast are amazing at the comedic roles and have the air and timing for comedy.
This is not to ignore the fight scenes, they are choreographed to keep the comedy alive, whilst still adding a certain amount of tension. Veasna Keo (Fight Choreographer) really knows her craft, the action has room to breathe but in no way hinders the plot. She even takes time to be in the final fight!

All-in-all, Raveena’s Revenge is a great look at a hilarious first date situation with supernatural elements.
We very much look forward to seeing where Joe Boi goes next.
